What is Animal Reiki?
Animal Reiki is a form of spiritual practice that involves using the energy healing technique of Reiki to promote healing and relaxation in animals.
Reiki is a Japanese energy work technique for stress reduction and relaxation based on the idea that energy flows through all living things.
Animal Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel this energy into an animal’s body to promote balance and healing.
Reiki is not a substitute for veterinary care but can be a complementary therapy to support a pet’s overall health and well-being.
Animal Reiki practitioners work with various animals, from domestic pets like cats, dogs, and horses, to wild animals in sanctuaries and rehabilitation centers. However, most often, practitioners work on pets.
Using Reiki for animals encompasses the principles of compassion, respect, and mindfulness. It emphasizes the importance of deeply connecting with animals and respecting their boundaries and needs.
Reiki can help your pet to feel more relaxed and at ease and can also help to improve their physical health and emotional well-being.
What Happens During a Session?
During a session, the first thing I do is establish a connection with your pet. I do this by introducing myself and offering your pet an opportunity to approach or retreat as he/she pleases.
Your pet can be standing, lying down, or sitting, and the session can take place in a quiet room or outside in nature.
After making the initial connection, I use various hand positions and techniques to channel the flow of Reiki energy into your pet’s body.
I use gentle touch or hover my hands above your pet’s body, depending on his/her preference and comfort level. I always give your pet the option of moving in and out of the Reiki energy as he/she pleases.
As I work, I pay close attention to your pet’s body language to better understand their needs and preferences. I may also pick up on some information about what your pet is experiencing mentally, physically, spiritually, or emotionally.
Your pet may respond to the Reiki energy in several different ways. He/she may become more relaxed, fall asleep, or exhibit signs of physical or emotional release.
The session typically lasts around 30-60 minutes, and your pet may require multiple sessions depending on his/her condition and response to the treatment.
